Tribe Odontalgini Jeannel, 1949

Introduction

This small but distinctive tribe is represented by 5 genera from central Africa, Madagascar, the Oriental Region, and Australia (Chandler 2001: 461).

 

Diagnosis

Body generally compact, body and legs with grooves for folding of appendages; body with squamous setae. Head with distinct frontal rostrum, antennal tubercles distinct; ocular-mandibular carinae weakly developed to lacking, gular-mandibular carinae strongly developed on ventrolateral margins; clypeal apex broadly rounded, lateral margins relatively straight to eyes; maxillary palpi lacking lateral setae or tubercles, second and fourth segments long and basally pedunculate, third segments elongate but shorter, not strongly pedunculate. Pronotal disc variously impressed and ridged; lacking paranotal carinae. Abdomen with deep setose basal sulci on visible tergite 1 (IV) and visible sternite 2 (IV); visible tergite 4 (VII) with adjacent paratergites. Legs with third tarsomeres as long as basal two combined; with 2 tarsal claws.
