Family ORIPODIDAE Jacot, 1925

Introduction

The family Oripodidae is large, with 25 genera and 109 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2009). The family is cosmopolitan, but reaches its highest level of diversity in the Neotropical Region (data from Subias 2011). Most of the genera have been collected on living plants, and are only occasionally found in litter (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). The Australian fauna is very poorly known, with only one described species in each of two genera, and an unidentified species in a third genus. Unidentified species have been recorded from Australia a number of times as listed for each genus, and unidentified Oripodidae were also reported by O'Dowd et al. (1991) and Longstaff et al. (1999).
