Introduction
The family Ophiocomidae is circum-tropical. Eight genera are known, including 78 species.
This family is distinguished from other ophiurid families by the following combination of character states: arms stout, widest at some distance from base; arm spines long, not adpressed; teeth stout, quadrangular; oral papillae border each jaw; dental papillae in clump at apex of each jaw.
