Family OMARTACARIDAE Cook, 1963
Introduction
The Omartacaridae is a small family of two genera of water mites that occur in interstitial water in gravel and sand in the Americas, India, and Australia (Cook 1986; Harvey 1998; Walter et al. 2009). Five species in a single genus are known from Australia. No new species have been added since the fauna was catalogued by Viets (1987), but further undescribed species are known to exist (Harvey 1998). Nothing is known of their biology.
