Palaeontological Society, London Vol. 2. [72] (new name for Pleurodon Wood, 1840. Date of publication is uncertain; it could be 1851. Wood had a heading of Nucinella, with "Nucula (sp.) Deshayes, 1829, Pleurodon S. Wood, 1840, and Nuculina d'Orbigny, 1845, sec. Gray" given as synonyms. This has been interpreted by Vokes (1980) in Genera of the Bivalvia: 22, as a nom. nov. pro Pleurodon Wood, 1840, non Harlan, 1834. The type species of Pleurodon is P. ovalis S. Wood, 1840, which is listed in 1850 in the synonymy of Nucula miliaris Deshayes, 1829, the only species included in Nucinella).
