ID Keys

(Williams, D.J. & Watson, G.W., 1990) [38] (female; genera of Ortheziidae); (Danzig, E.M., 1988) [695] (female; Ortheziidae genera of the Soviet far east); (Yang, P.L., 1982) [14] (female; Ortheziidae genera of China); (Kosztarab, M. & Kozár, F., 1978) [10] (female; genera of Ortheziidae); (Tereznikova, E.M., 1975) [111] (female; Ortheziidae genera of Ukraine); (Danzig, E.M., 1971) [806] (female; key to genera of Ortheziidae); (Green, E.E., 1922) [417] (adult female; genera of the subfamily Ortheziinae); (MacGillivray, A.D., 1921) [111] (adult female; genera of Ortheziinae)

STRUCTURE

Adult female of this genus is completely covered with depressed or flattened tufts or plates of secretion, much as in Orthezia. Ovisac is as long as the body. Larvae are similar to Orthezia, differing primarily in the possession of only four segmented antennae (see Morrison, H. 1925. Classification of scale insects of the subfamily Ortheziinae. Journal of Agricultural Research 30: 97–154).

GENERAL

Detailed description of the genus by Morrison, H. 1925. Classification of scale insects of the subfamily Ortheziinae. Journal of Agricultural Research 30: 97–154. Mamet, J.R. 1947. On the probable centre of dispersion of the genus Newsteadia Green (Homoptera, Coccoidea). Proceedings of the Royal Entomological Society of London A: General Entomology 22: 49–51 discussed the distribution of the genus.
