Introduction

This species differs from all other Australian Balclutha by having the vertex distinctly longer in the centre than against the eyes. It has been found along the eastern coastline of mainland Australia from the wet tropics of North Queensland to the Sydney basin in New South Wales. It was not treated by Knight in his review of the genus in the Pacific Region (1987 Journal of Natural History 21: 1173–1224) as it appears to be an Australian endemic.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Bright-green. Tegmina hyaline, veins green. Wings and wing veins hyaline. Vertex roundly angulate anteriorly, a little shorter proportionately than in N. [esoclutha] phryne. Length 4 mm. (Kirkaldy 1907).
