Extra Distribution Information

Reported from Queensland by Mayer (1915) and Kramp (1961) and the Great Australian Bight by Gershwin & Zeidler (2003). Cosmopolitan in tropical and subtropical oceans and seas.


Ecological Descriptors

Carnivorous, epipelagic, marine, planktonic.

Extra Ecological Information

Polyps have been raised from Queensland specimens by Gershwin (unpublished notes, 2000).

 

Diagnosis

Nausithoe with 9-15 mm wide, discoidal body; central disk thick, without radiating furrows, finely punctured; gastral filaments not grouped in clusters; large gonads.

 

Notes

Reported in Queensland by Mayer (1915) and Kramp (1961a); in the Great Australian Bight by Gershwin & Zeidler (2003). Polyps raised from Queensland specimens by Gershwin (unpublished notes, 2000).
