Family NOSYBEIDAE Mahunka, 1993

Introduction

The family Nosybeidae is a very small family, including only two genera and seven species (Subias 2004, 2011). The most important contribution to the systematics of the family was by Mahunka (1993). The larger of the two genera, Topalia, has a Gondwanan distribution in South Africa, South America, and Australasia. The family is represented in Australia by five species of Topalia from soil, moss and litter in New South Wales and southern Queensland. These were referred to as unidentified species by Osler (1997), Hunt et al. (1998) and Colloff & Halliday (1998), and described by Colloff (2019).
