Introduction

Following Hoenemann et al. (2013) the Nectiopodia now comprises seven families: Godzillidae, Micropacteridae and Speleonectidae; the newly erected families Kumongidae, Pleomothridae and Cryptocorynetidae; and the Morlockiidae which was removed from synonymy. Only Kumongidae is represented in Australia.

Diagnosis

No eyes; cephalon with ventral spined frontal processes; large biramous antennules with basal pad of aesthetascs; paddle-like biramous antennae; mandibles "internalized" into atrium oris; maxillules, maxillae and maxi llipeds as well developed. uniramous raptoria l mouthparts with elbows; maxillules with terminal claw or "fang," basal maxillulary endites functioning in place of "external" mandibles; maxillae with basal complex of 3 digitiform endites; maxillipedal segment fused to cephalon; trunk limbs ventrolaterally directed from body; gonopores on bases of 14th trunk limbs; anal segment with simple oval caudal rami.
