Family NANHERMANNIIDAE Sellnick, 1928

Introduction

The family Nanhermanniidae includes eight genera and 65 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). They are heavily sclerotised and slow-moving mites that are found in forest litter, especially in the Oriental and Neotropical Regions (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009; Subias 2011). The Australian fauna includes five species in two genera, as well as a number of records of unidentified species, as reviewed by Colloff & Halliday (1998). Four of the five species were described by Balogh (1985), in forest litter in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Stone & Simpson (1990) reported an unidentified species under bark in New South Wales.
