Introduction
Murphitella differs from Limesta by the combination of having reduced radial sculpture and dominant spiral sculpture on the teleoconch and a smooth protoconch.

Diagnosis
Shell medium to large, subglobose with a low-domed to flat spire, last whorl very large and flared; protoconch, shiny, smooth, upper adult whorl surface with weak radial growth ridges intersected either by weak discontinuous spiral striae or continuous spiral grooves, underside of whorls with very weak radial growth lines and very fine microspiral striae; lip simple; umbilicus narrow to very wide, V-shaped. Shell colour yellow sometimes with irregular dark reddish-brown radial streaks. Animal with white dorsal stripe.
