Introduction
This is a small subfamily, endemic to Australia (see Trachypetinae), which is known from Mesostoa (3 species) and three undescribed genera. The body is small and delicate, the pronotum projects forward past the antero-ventral mesosoma, and males are brachypterous (reduced, non-functional wings). The subfamily is remarkable in that all the known species are primary gall formers on Banksia (Austin & Dangerfield 1998).
