Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
Introduction
Removed from synonymy with M. c. pylene by Eitschberger (2003) who referred the species to M. stenoxanthum (Turner, 1925). Moulds et al. (2020) presented evidence for treating M. stenoxanthum as a junior synonym of M. approximans T.P. Lucas, 1891, but placed the taxa as a subspecies of M. corythus, rather than a species. See Moulds et al. (2020) for further discussion.
