Type species:
Macrocera lutea Meigen, 1804 by subsequent designation, see Curtis, J. 1837. British Entomology; being illustrations and descriptions of the genera of insects found in Great Britain and Ireland: containing coloured figures from nature of the most rare and beautiful species, and in many instances of the plants upon which they are found. London : Privately published Vol. 14 pls 626–673. [637]. - Euphrosyne Meigen, J.W. 1800. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.) d'après un plan tout nouveau. Paris : Perronneau pp. 1-40. [This publication suppressed by the I.C.Z.N.] [16] [invalid name; Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature (ICZN 1963: 339 [Opinion 678]].
- Euphrosyne Osten Sacken, C.R. 1882. Priorität oder Continuität? Ein dipterologischer Beitrag. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 1: 191–193 [193] [invalid name; Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. Osten Sacken (1882) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability (see Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
- Euphrosyne Bezzi, M. 1907. Nomenklatorisches über Dipteren. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 26: 51-56 [56] [invalid name; Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. Bezzi (1907) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability (see Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
- Euphrosyne Hendel, F. 1908. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.). D'après un plan tout nouveau par J.G. Meigen, Paris, an VIII (1800 v.s.). Mit Kommentar herausgegeben von Friedrich Hendel. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 58: 43-69 [47] [Preoccupied by Euphrosyne Gray, 1866 and Euphrosyne Buchecker, 1880. Hendel (1908: 47) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Euphrosyne as valid, which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel’s (1908) single species, given as “Tip. longicornis?”, is questionably included and, as such, is not allowed under Article 67.2.5 of the Code. The first included species fulfilling the conditions of the Code was in Coquillett (1910: 542) who selected Macrocera lutea Meigen, 1804 as type species by subsequent designation. Macrocera lutea Meigen, 1804 is currently treated in Macrocera Meigen, 1803, which makes Euphrosyne Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Macrocera Meigen, 1803 (Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
