Family MONTCHADSKYELLIDAE Bychowsky, Korotajeva & Nagibina, 1970
- Bychowski, B.E, Korotajeva, V.D. & Nagibina, L.F 1970. Montchadskyella intestinale n.g., n.sp., a new member of endo-parasitic monogeneans. Parazitologiya 4(5): 451-457
Introduction
This taxon is represented globally by a single, poorly known species, Montchadskyella intestinale, recorded from the intestine of its host. It was initially attributed to the Monocotylidea but Boeger & Kritsky (1993) proposed elevation to its own ordinal status, Montchadskyellidea Lebedev, 1988.
While similar to the Monocotylidae, the Montchadskyellidae differ in the absence of septa and adhesive pits on the haptor, the presence of two genital projections (the male copulatory organ and uterus opening on one and the vaginal opening on the other), and in numerous lateral branches of the gut caeca (Bychowsky et al. 1970).
