Introduction
The Molpadiidae are a cosmopolitan family comprising two genera, one of which occurs in Australian waters. Three species are recognised in the Australian fauna.
This family is distinguished from Caudinidae in the order Molpadiida by the following combination of character states: body stout with a more or less posterior 'tail' like extension; tube feet absent; tentacles 15, short with one–three pairs of digits and a terminal digit; calcareous ossicles comprise tables, rods, perforated plates and rarely anchor forms; phosphatic bodies often present.
