- Mimosellidae Hincks, T. 1877. On British Polyzoa. Part 2. Classification. Annals and Magazine of Natural History 4 20: 520-532 [532].
Introduction
No records of this family from Australia have been published. However, colonies were collected by P.Bock in May 2002 by SCUBA from Port Phillip Heads at a depth of 25 m. These had the colony form of Mimosella verticillata, and the muscular movement of the zooids was observed.
Diagnosis
Zooids contracted basally, sometimes pedicellate, deciduous, arising from short kenozooids that are produced as short branches from the main stolon(s); capable of flexing movements. Embryos brooded internally. (Gordon, 1984)
