Family MEGASPILIDAE

Compiler and date details

25 January 2009 - Norman F. Johnson, L. Musetti and John T. Jennings

Introduction

This small family is closely related to the Ceraphronidae. They vary in size from 1-3 mm, and are parasitic on various Diptera, Hemiptera and Neuroptera or are hyperparasitic on aphids. Females of the family are easily identified by having a pterostigma and curved stigmal vein, while males are superficially very similar to ceraphronids.

Jennings & Austin (2015) list 2 unidentified species from Lord Howe Island in the Australian Museum.
