Edwards, E.D. 1996. Herminiidae. pp. 289-290 in Nielsen, E.S., Edwards, E.D. & Rangsi, T.V. (eds). Checklist of the Lepidoptera of Australia. Monographs on Australian Lepidoptera. Collingwood : CSIRO Publishing Vol. 4 xiv 529 pp. & CD-ROM. [289] (Note # 574: Lithilarria octias (Meyrick, 1897). Dugdale (1988) noted that Meyrick (1901b: 566) excluded New Zealand specimens from his concept of L. octias (Meyrick). Hypenodes anticlina Meyrick, 1901 was described to accommodate the New Zealand specimens. Nye (1975 synonymised L. octias (Meyrick) with L. ossicolor Rosenstock, 1885. Meyrick's syntypes of L. octias came from Richmond River (female), Sydney (female) and Victoria (male). It is probable that Meyrick's Victorian specimen is L. ossicolor Rosenstock and his specimens from Richmond River and Sydney are L. proestans (Lucas, 1895). In the preparation for this Checklist the female specimen from Sydney has been documented and photographed because the male is without an abdomen. The synonymy adopted here is based on the identity of the Sydney female specimen as an informal lectotype. Whichever syntype is eventually designated as the lectotype, L. octias (Meyrick) will remain a junior subjective synonym)
