Generic Combinations
- Lepidodactylus lugubris (Duméril & Bibron, 1836).
Introduction
Global distribution extending from the Seychelles east across the Pacific to the Americas and Caribbean, being native in the South-east Asian portion.
Due to the limited and patchy distribution in mainland Australia, Cogger (1994) argues that the species might have been accidentally introduced by man, while the populations in Torres Strait islands are native. Limpus et al. (1999), while reporting a new record for Heron Island, note that they could not detect the species in coastal areas and islands between Mission Beach and Townsville in the mid-late 1970's.
Distribution
States
Northern Territory, Queensland
Extra Distribution Information
Scattered localities in northern Australia including Darwin, coastal localities in northeast QLD, many islands in Torres Strait, and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, possibly introduced to continental Australia (see Introduction); tropical, native to east Indo-west Pacific (SE Asia),widely introduced across Indo-Pacific (Seychelles, Carribean)
Introduced.
