Family LYTOCESTIDAE Hunter, 1927
Introduction
This family is characterised by having the longitudinal musculature separating the cortical testes from the vitellarium. It comprises 16 genera, six of which occur in the Oriental region, the remaining 10 scattered in all regions except the Neotropics (Mackiewicz 1994).
Two endemic monotypic genera are known from Australia, both occurring in siluriform fishes of the genera Tandanus and Neosilurus.
