Family LYONETIIDAE
Introduction
[After Nielsen 1996: 57]
This family of small moths was usually included in the Bucculatricidae until they were excluded by Kyrki (1984, 1990) who defined the family and associated them with the Yponomeutidae.
There are no modern taxonomic accounts of the two largest subfamilies Cemiostominae and Lyonetiinae from Australia. However, the detailed revision of the Japanese fauna (Kuroko 1964) is a key reference for the study of the family. Emmet (1985) more recently reviewed the British fauna. The revision of the European Leucoptera Hübner species (Mey 1994) includes L. spartifoliella (Hübner) which has been introduced into Australia for the biological control of Scotch Broom.
The Bedelliinae include only the small genus Bedellia with about 12 species worldwide. Two species are known from Australia, including the nearly cosmopolitan B. somnulentella (Zeller) (Kuroko 1972).
