Family LOXOCONCHIDAE Sars, 1925

Diagnosis

Valves usually rhomboid, relatively short and high, sometimes with caudal process. Fused zone relatively broad. Inner margin and line of concrescence separated at anterior and posterior end of valves. Marginal pore canals simple, straight and sparse. Antennula usually slender with 5, 6 segments and weak claws. Masticatory process of mandibula strong, respiratory plate sometimes strongly reduced. Maxillula with 2, or 3 segments. First endite bearing at its inner margin special process with comb of spines or very strong claw. Respiratory plate of maxillula with aberrant seta. Thoracopods slender, caudal ramus with one or two setae. Body end in female often leaf-shaped and triangular, distally rounded distal process.
