Introduction
Lonchopteridae are a small monogeneric family containing 37 described species. Adults of Lonchoptera are small, slender, brownish or yellowish flies with pointed wings and sexually dimorphic venation. One species is cosmopolitan and parthenogenetic, and is the only species found in Australia. Larvae are found in decaying vegetative matter (Smith 1969).
