Family LIMNOCHARIDAE Grube, 1859
Introduction
The Limnocharidae is a cosmopolitan family of water mites that are found in rivers and lakes, where the adults prey on aquatic insects. The larvae of Limnocharidae are parasites that attack aquatic insects including Hemiptera and Odonata (Walter et al. 2009). The Australian fauna is very limited, with only one species in each of three genera. The small amount of available information on this fauna was reviewed by Harvey (1990, 1998).
