Family LARDOGLYPHIDAE Oudemans, 1927

Introduction

The family Lardoglyphidae includes a single genus with about five species world-wide. These species are found in birds' nests and stored food, especially meat products, but also in other types of stored food, where they can be significant pests. The non-feeding deutonymph (hypopus) is phoretic on beetles that occur in the same habitat, such as Dermestidae (Hughes 1976; OConnor 2009). Two cosmopolitan species have been found in Australia, in preserved meat products and stored food.
