Family LAMPROPIDAE G.O. Sars, 1878
Introduction
The Lampropidae are a small, cold-water family of 15 genera and 86 species. The family is distinctive with members easily recognised by having at least three terminal setae on the telson. Two genera and four species are known from Australian waters.
The monophyly of the family was confirmed by the phylogenetic analysis of Gerken et al. (2021).
Diagnosis
Male. Antenna 2 flagellum extending beyond thorax, peduncle with 5 articles. Mandibles navicular. Pereopod 1 simple. Pleopods present. Uropod endopod with 3 articles. Telson articulated (may be small flap), size variable; anus present, with 1 or with 3 or more terminal setae.
Female. Antenna 2 reduced, slightly smaller than antenna 1, peduncle with 4 articles or with 5 articles. Mandibles navicular. Maxilliped 3 exopod present. Pereopod 1 simple. Pereopod 3 exopod rudimentary or absent. Uropod endopod with 3 articles. Telson articulated (may be small flap). (Generated from Watling & Gerken 2002)
