Subfamily Issinae Spinola, 1839

Compiler and date details

11 April 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Although Spinola (1839) recognised a family Issites with a subfamily "Issoides", the other subfamilies of the family were the "Derboides" and "Flatoides", the former corresponding with our current family Derbidae and the latter combining our current families Flatidae, Lophopidae, Ricaniidae and Acanaloniidae. Nonetheless, Spinola (1839) was the first to recognise subfamilies within what was known at the time as the family Issites. Gnezdilov & Fletcher (2010) examined the Australian fauna and provided a key to genera. All the Australian genera were placed in the tribe Issini although they stated that the higher classification of the Issidae needed revision.

Diagnosis

Since all the Australian Issidae are currently placed within the one subfamily, no diagnosis is considered necessary.
