Introduction
Amey et al. (2012) discuss the nomenclature of the Australian Eastern Water Dragon, first described as Lophura lesueurii by Gray (1831), and subsequently placed in Physignathus Cuvier, 1829, also by Gray (1845) [Phrysignathus Gray, 1845, lapsus pro Physignathus Cuvier; Physognathus Agassiz, 1846, emendation pro Physignathus Cuvier; see Cogger et al. (1983)]. Amey et al. (2012) noted that Townsend et al. (2011) found that the genus Physignathus is not monophyletic, and resurrected the name Istiurus to accommodate several species, including lesueurii. However, as this genus name is not available, the name Intellagama Wells & Wellington, 1985, is used as the earliest name available for the genus.
