SYSTEMATICS
Morrison, H. 1952. Classification of the Ortheziidae. Supplement to Classification of scale insects of the subfamily Ortheziinae. United States Department of Agriculture Technical Bulletin 1052: 1–80 states that this insect has gone under the authorship of J.W. Douglas almost exclusively since its first description, but Lindinger, in 1935, called attention to the fact that Browne's notes and illustrations on the species constituted a description, though that was not his intention, and appeared in print before the Douglas description of it as new. Some could consider Douglas' description as a junior synonym and homonym.
STRUCTURE
Adult female oval, with little secretion (see Morrison, H. 1925. Classification of scale insects of the subfamily Ortheziinae. Journal of Agricultural Research 30: 97–154).
ECONOMIC AND CONTROL
Biological control discussed by Fulmek, L. 1943. Wirtsindex der Aleyrodiden- und Cocciden- Parasiten. Entomologische Beihefte 10: 1–100 and Bartlett, B.R. 1978. Coccidae. In, Clausen, C.P. (ed). Introduced Parasites and Predators of Arthropod Pests and Weeds: A World Review. Washington, D.C. : Agricultural Research Service, United States Department of Agriculture 545 pp.. Ebeling, W. 1959. Subtropical fruit pests. Los Angeles : Division of Agricultural Sciences, Univ. of Calif. 436 pp. states that this species is a pest of citrus in India and South America. McDaniel, E.I. 1931. Insects and allied pests of plants grown under glass. Bulletin of the Michigan State Agricultural College Experiment Station (Entomology Department) [1931]: 213–214 provides instructions for chemical control.
