Syntype(s) whereabouts unknown (specimens probably lost in wreck of USS Peacock), "in mare Pacifico" (77ºS 109ºW) on Porpita. Dana (1853: 698) gave more probable locality: 16°50'S 107°45'E (north-eastern Indian Ocean) on Porpita, and near New Zealand.Type locality references:
