Family IZINKALIDAE Lowry & Stoddart, 2010
Introduction
The Izinkalidae is a remarkable monotypic family until recently known only from deep water off eastern South Africa and south-western Madagascar (Griffiths, 1977; Ledoyer, 1986). Lowry and Stoddart (2010c) recently reported the first Australian izinkalid from the continental shelf off eastern Australia. They found it difficult to align the izinkalids with other lysianassoid family-level taxa. Izinkalids, like bolttsiids appear to be post-gondwanan relicts indicating a past faunal relationship between Australia and South Africa.
