Family INGOLFIELLIDAE Hansen, 1903

Introduction

Two species of ingolfiellids are described from Australia (Lowry & Poore 1989), but several other undescribed species are known to exist. Ruffo & Taglianti (1989) provided a key to the subgenera of Ingolfiella.

Diagnosis

Head longer than deep or deeper than long; anteroventral margin straight; rostrum short or absent; eyes round. Body cylindrical; smooth; with sparse slender setae or without setae. Antenna 1 shorter than, subequal to, or longer than antenna 2; peduncular article 1 subequal to, or longer than article 2; article 2 longer than article 3; article 3 shorter than article 1; primary flagellum less than or more than 5-articulate; callynophore absent. Antenna 2 short; flagellum shorter than peduncle; 5- or more articulate. Mandible incisor dentate; lacinia mobilis present on both sides; molar non-triturating, a smooth protuberance with large robust setae; palp present or absent. Maxilla 1 inner plate weakly setose apically. Maxilliped inner plates well developed or reduced; outer plates absent. Coxae 1–4 broader than long, discontiguous. Gnathopod 1 not sexually dimorphic; smaller (or weaker) than or subequal to gnathopod 2; carpochelate; coxa vestigial; carpus longer than propodus. Gnathopod 2 sexually dimorphic; carpochelate; coxa vestigial; ischium short; carpus long, longer than propodus. Pereopod 3 coxa vestigial, as long as broad; carpus subequal to, or longer than propodus, not produced; dactylus minute or well developed with cylindrical bifid unguis. Pereopod 4 coxa vestigial, without posteroventral lobe; carpus shorter than, subequal to, or longer than propodus, not produced; dactylus minute or well developed with cylindrical bifid unguis. Pereopod 5 shorter than or subequal to pereopod 6; coxa vestigial, without posterior lobe; basis linear, subrectangular, without posteroventral lobe; carpus weakly expanded or linear. Pereopod 6 shorter than or subequal to pereopod 7; basis slightly expanded or linear. Pereopod 7 subequal to, or longer than pereopod 5; basis slightly expanded or linear, subrectangular. Urosomite 1 subequal to, or longer than urosomite 2. Uropods 1–2 apices of rami without robust setae. Uropod 3 uniramous; peduncle short; ramus shorter or longer than peduncle, without recurved spines. Telson thickened dorsoventrally; entire; longer than broad or as long as broad; dorsal and apical robust setae absent.
