Introduction
The family was defined by Silén (1946), and contains the single genus Immergentia. As with the Terebriporidae, there is no peduncle, with the zooids connecting directly to the stolon. Stolons are not distinct kenozooids, but narrow extensions of the autozooid. The zooids extend into the substratum close to vertically. Zooids have apertures which are asymmetrical, so that left and right forms can be distinguished. It is possible that some of the boring bryozoans from southeastern Australia may belong to the genus Immergentia.
