  Comment: Butler in the original description did not indicate the number of specimens described; Riley, N.D. & Gabriel, A.G. 1924. Catalogue of the Type Specimens of Lepidoptera Rhopalocera in the British Museum. Part I. Satyrinae. London : British Museum 62 pp. [49] (listed a single male type in the BMNH and gave type information).
• Hypocysta epirius Butler, A.G. 1875. Contributions towards a knowledge of the Rhopalocera of Australia. Transactions of the Entomological Society of London 23(1): 1-10 [4].

  Comment: Butler in the original description mentioned both sexes and gave two localities; Riley, N.D. & Gabriel, A.G. 1924. Catalogue of the Type Specimens of Lepidoptera Rhopalocera in the British Museum. Part I. Satyrinae. London : British Museum 62 pp. [19, 20] (listed a type male and a type female in the BMNH and these must be syntypes).

Zoological Catalogue of Australia. Vol. 31.6. Melbourne : CSIRO Publishing, Australia. x 615 pp. (Waterhouse (1936) may have suggested the Hunter River because A.W. Scott reared several species at Ash Is., but the two Hypocysta species that Scott reared were H. euphemia and H. metirius; see Ord, M. 1988. Historical Drawings of Moths and Butterflies, Harriet and Helena Scott: introduced and selected by Marion Ord. Roseville, NSW : Craftsman's House 147 pp. [84]).
