Hypochrysops hippuris Hewitson, W.C. 1874. Descriptions of new species of Lycaenidae from his own collection. Transactions of the Entomological Society of London 22(3): 343–355 [351].
Type data: holotype BMNH *; Hewitson in the original description did not indicate the number of specimens described; described from the Hewitson collection; Kirby, W.F. 1879. Catalogue of the Collection of Diurnal Lepidoptera Formed by the Late William Chapman Hewitson, of Oatlands, Walton-on-Thames; and Bequeathed by Him to the British Museum. London : John van Voorst iv 246 pp. [167] (listed a single specimen in the Hewitson collection and this is taken as evidence for a holotype); Druce, H.H. 1891. A monograph of the Lycaenid genus Hypochrysops, with descriptions of new species. Transactions of the Entomological Society of London 1891(2): 179–195 [194] (stated that the only specimen he knew was the type in the Hewitson collection and this is also evidence of a holotype); Sands, D.P.A. 1986. A revision of the genus Hypochrysops C. & R. Felder. Entomonograph 7: 1–116 [85] (referred to a holotype and gave type information); Parsons, M.J. 1998. The Butterflies of Papua New Guinea; their systematics and biology. San Diego : Academic Press 736 pp. [358] referred to a holotype).
Type locality: Aru Is., Indonesia (designated in original description).
