Family HUMEROBATIDAE Grandjean, 1971

Introduction

The family Humerobatidea includes a single genus and 11 species (Schatz et al. 2011). Subias (2004, 2011) used a much wider concept of the family, including many genera that are here placed in other families. These mites feed on fungi and algae growing on trees, and do not occur in litter (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). The family is known from Australia on the basis of an unidentified species of Humerobates that was collected on live leaves, and unidentified Humerobatidae were also reported by Adolphson & Kinnear (2008).
