Genus Holopsamma Carter, 1885
- [Halme] Lendenfeld, R. von 1885. A monograph of the Australian sponges. Part 5. Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 10: 282-325 pls 26-35 [285] [junior homonym of Halme Pascoe, 1869 (Coleoptera)].
Type species:
Holopsamma laminaefavosa Carter, 1885 by subsequent designation, see Laubenfels, M.W. de 1936. A discussion of the sponge fauna of the Dry Tortugas in particular, and the West Indies in general, with material for a revision of the families and orders of the Porifera. (Tortugas Lab. Paper No. 467). Publication of the Carnegie Institution of Washington Washington 30: 1-225 22 pls 1 map [17]. - Holopsamma Carter, H.J. 1885. Description of sponges from the neighbourhood of Port Phillip Heads, South Australia. Annals and Magazine of Natural History 5 15: 196-222 [211] [Holopsamma Carter has priority over Halme Lendenfeld, 1885 (which is preoccupied), but the type species is composite, consisting of a series of 31 'syntypes' (referable to at least five different taxa). Only five of these are synonyms of Halme globosa Lendenfeld, 1885. No subsequent lectotype designations have been made for Holopsamma crassa, so the genus is still doubtful, but the nomination of BMNH 1886.12.15.313 as lectotype in this present work makes Holopsamma the most senior available name].

Endeavour on the coasts of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Tasmania, 1909–10. Part 1. Zoological (and Biological) Results of the Fishing Experiments carried on by F.I.S. Diagnosis
‘Honeycombed reticulate’ growth form consisting of tightly anastomosing flattened fibre-branches (lacunae); choanosomal skeleton simply reticulate, without any axial compression or differentiation between axial and extra-axial skeletons; principal spicules core and echinate fibres, those inside fibres sometimes partially or completely replaced by detritus although those echinating fibres usually always present. Microscleres palmate isochelae and rarely toxas.
