Introduction

Salazar-Vallejo (2018) revised the Hesione describing several new species that occur in Australian waters, and restricted the distribution of H. splendida to the western Indian Ocean. While previously recorded from Australia, records of H. splendida are based on a group of species that Salazar-Vallejo (2018) removed from synonymy with H. splendida, including H. eugeniae, H. genetta, H. intertexta and H. pacifica. Also removed from synonymy with H. splendida were H. ceylonica and H. pantherina however the distributions of these species were restricted by Salazar-Vallejo (2018) and neither are recorded from Australia.
