Introduction
This is a moderately small subfamily comprising mostly small to large braconids. The group is morphologically diverse, with numerous genera having previously been treated in other subfamilies. For instance, Triaspis has a metasomal carapace, and Trichiohelcon has the posterior mesosoma and anterior metasoma clothed in dense, white hairs.
Helconinae are worldwide in distribution. The Australian genera appear to be moderately diverse with numerous undescribed species. Members of this group are endoparasitoids of beetle larvae, or are egg-larval parasitoids.
