Ecological Descriptors
Larva: arboreal, herbivore (associated flora: Millettia megasperma (F.Muell.) Benth. [FABACEAE] Native Wisteria; Wisteria chinensis Siebold [FABACEAE] cultivated Wisteria).
Closed forest, coastal, subtropical, temperate, volant.
Extra Ecological Information
Native Wisteria is an evergreen rainforest climber, larvae have recently adapted to cultivated Wisteria, eggs are laid singly on stems and new leaves of food plant, larva feeds only at night and builds silk-lined shelters in leaves of food plant, pupa in last larval shelter or larva may leave food plant and pupate in leaves of adjacent plants, adult flies throughout the day, flight is very rapid, recorded all months of the year, at Newcastle, NSW, overwinters as adult and lays eggs on developing Wisteria sinensis buds (A. Atkins, pers. comm.).
