Family HYADESIIDAE Halbert, 1915
- Hyadesidae Halbert, J.N. 1915. Clare Island Survey. 39. Acarinida. Section II. Terrestrial and marine Acarina. Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy 31: 45-136 pls IV-VIII [original spelling].
Introduction
The family Hyadesiidae is represented in Australia by a single species of Hyadesia, described from intertidal algae. Procheş & Marshall (2001) catalogued 47 species in this family world-wide in similar habitats. These mites feed on marine algae and possibly other types of organic debris (OConnor 2009). Unidentified species of Hyadesiidae were reported from Australia by Kitching & Callaghan (1982), but these species have now been described in the genus Lamingtonacarus Fashing et al. (2000), in the family Algophagidae.
