Family HIRONDELLEIDAE Lowry & Stoddart, 2010
Introduction
Recently Lowry & Stoddart (2010) established the monotypic family Hirondelleidae to accommodate 16 species, five from Australian waters. Hirondelleids are well know scavenging amphipods occurring from 170 to 10500 m depth in world oceans, the greatest depth range of any amphipod group. They appear to be most closely related to eurytheneid amphipods, another well-documented scavenging group.
