Family HETEROMICROCOTYLIDAE Unnithan, 1961

Introduction

The Heteromicrocotylidae are characterised as follows: Haptor asymmetrical. Clamps different in general pattern from those of Microcotyle, on one side only or on both sides, or modified differently in different parts of haptor; accessory sclerites present. Terminal lappet bearing anchors absent. Intestinal crura with diverticula, terminating in haptor. Testes numerous, extending to base of haptor. Cirrus armed, opening with uterus into armed gential atrium. Eggs filamented. Vagina present.

Type genus: Heteromicrocotyla Yamaguti, 1963 (Yamaguti 1963).

Two genera arer represented in Australia. Parasites of marine fishes.
