Family HERMANNIELLIDAE Grandjean, 1934
Introduction
The family Hermanniellidae includes ten genera and 57 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). They are mainly found in forest litter, where they appear to feed on fallen leaves, but some are found in the forest canopy and coastal habitats (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). The family appears to be diverse and abundant in Australia, but is known only on the basis of unidentified species, which have been collected at a number of localities in eastern Australia. Hunt (1994) recorded an unidentified species of Hermanniella sp. from Australia, but these specimens have been re-identified as Hermannobates sp. (see Colloff & Halliday 1998).
