Family HALOSBAENIDAE Monod & Cals, 1988

Introduction

The family was diagnosed in detail by Wagner (1994) who also redescribed the three genera and all the species. This diagnosis is a summary from his key.

 

Diagnosis

Body elongate; 7 pairs of pereopods; telson separate from pleonite 6; ocular scales present; antenna 1 main flagellum with 1 aesthetasc on articles 2 and beyond; antenna 2 with peduncular article 3 without scale; gnathopod without exopod, with 2 or 3 (more or less modified) serrate macrosetae forming a claw; propodus of gnathopod lacking spur; pereopods 2–7 without ovate microsetae; pleopod 1 a small unarticulated lobe.
