Family HALOPHILOSCIIDAE Verhoeff, 1908
Introduction
Halophilosciidae are Palaearctic, supralittoral isopods. One species has been introduced to Australia as well as to the USA, Bermuda, West Africa and Argentina. The family and single genus were diagnosed by Schmalfuss & Ferrara (1978).
Diagnosis
Animals do not conglobate. Body outline interrupted between pereon and pleon. Head with supra-antennal line complete, frontal line incomplete. Antenna 2 flagellum with 3 articles. Dactylar organ present on each pereopod. Male with penis bifurcated distally. Without pleopodal lungs.
