Extra Distribution Information

Known species of Gymnanthelius inhabit south-eastern Australia; the northernmost species being G. cupreus, G. lamingtonensis and G. maxipunctus, known from south-eastern Queensland; ive of the eight known species have been collected in Victoria, five in New South Wales, and three in the Australian Capital Territory; two species, G. clypeatus and G. cupreus, have been collected in all three states.

Diagnosis

Recognised by the combination of the bilobate labrum with U-shaped apicomedian notch, the deep foveae of the frons, the wide, continuous lateral hyaline border of the pronotum, the angulate lateral process of the pronotum, the deep median groove and lack of posterior foveae of the pronotum, the details of the antennal pocket and exocrine secretion delivery system (see below) and, in males, the basally angulate last article of the mesotarsi, and the basic aedeagal structure.
