Introduction

The Eurymelini are frequently large leafhoppers with opaque black or blue-black tegmina usually with white markings and often with red or orange colouring around the head, thorax and bases of the tegmina. As such they are fairly obvious, particular in gregarious groups on eucalypt trees and tended by ants. The bright colouring may serve as warning of the presence of the ants which defend the leahoppers as sources of honeydew. This tribe lives exclusively on eucalypts.

Diagnosis

Tegmina a shining blue black with or without white or coloured fasciae; subgenital plates broad and flap-like, with styles; head, including eyes, wider that the pronotum at its base; hind tibiae quadrilateral in section, bearing distinct spurs with modified spines at their apices (Evans 1933).
